April 25, 2023. Ascensia Diabetes Care UK Ltd is delighted to announce that the CONTOUR®PLUS BLUE blood glucose meter and Microlet® lancets have been included in the NHS England ‘Commissioning recommendations following the national assessment of blood glucose and ketone meter, testing strips and lancets’.
The assessment was concluded in February 2023 and is part of the NHS Long Term Plan to set out a range of actions to reduce variations in access to services and patient outcomes, improve quality of treatment and outcomes for people living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
The CONTOUR®PLUS BLUE meter has been included in Category 2 – Type 2 diabetes which lists meters and strips which are suitable for the majority of people with Type 2 diabetes. Besides this, Ascensia’s Microlet® lancets have also been included in Category 4 – Lancets, identifying them as suitable for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes including people who require enhanced functionality.
As part of this announcement, NHS England has also stated that people with diabetes that are already using meters that are not on the recommended list of products should be offered an alternative meter at the earliest opportunity following a discussion with their healthcare professional.
Ascensia has a range of tools and services to support healthcare professionals in implementing these recommendations.
